LAPLACE — Nathan Oubre, a sixth-grade student at St. Joan of Arc Catholic School, has been named Student of the Fall Quarter by Rotary Club of LaPlace.

Oubre, the son of Bryan and Sherrie Oubre of Reserve, serves on SJA’s student council and participates on the school’s swim and soccer teams. He is an altar server and reader at school mass, and also serves as an altar server at St. Peter Church in Reserve. He is an honor roll student.

During the summer, Oubre enjoys swimming with the Larayo Barracudas.

Rotary member Ronny Michel said Oubre was the perfect fit for the award because of his academic excellence and extra-curricular involvement.

“Rotary’s motto is Service Above Self,” she said. “It’s important to the Rotary Club of LaPlace to not just serve our community, but to recognize and honor students who exemplify our motto.”

SJA Principal Jenny Poulos said the school’s administration team felt Oubre was deserving of the recognition for all he has accomplished and the example he sets for the school’s student body.

“Nathan exhibits all that we hope for in our Vikings. He excels in his academics, service to others, and the way he lives out his daily faith,” she said. “In the classroom, Nathan maintains an excellent grade point average through his knowledge of content as well as the effort he puts into his studies. Outside the classroom, he has demonstrated at a young age his desire to work to help others by serving on the student council as well as being involved in other organizations. Nathan lives out his faith by serving as an altar server and being a daily example of how we should treat others.”

Oubre thanked the Rotary Club for the honor when he accepted it at a recent luncheon.

“I always strive to do my best and help others along the way,” he said.
