Burglary Investigation Leads to Seizure of Multiple Fully Automatic Weapons and Various Illegal Narcotics

New Orleans – In October of 2022, Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigative Division New Orleans Field Office (CID-NFO) received information from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office Burglary Division regarding several burglaries of storage and rental facilities in the New Orleans metro area.
Through a joint investigation with detectives from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, several stolen items were located at an address in Orleans Parish. Detectives learned that 24-year-old Byron Blunt was associated with the residence and involved in additional criminal activity. Through investigative means, detectives also identified 23-year-old Lorenzo Penn and 22-year-old Byron Bazile as associates in the investigation. Detectives subsequently obtained a search warrant for a residence in Orleans Parish, and the warrant was served on October 31, 2022. Detectives located and seized the following: 7 firearms, two of which were illegally modified to fully automatic and one that was stolen; numerous firearm parts, accessories, and ammunition; 3 stolen dirt bikes; 1 stolen vehicle; 1 stolen boat; various illegal narcotics and paraphernalia valued at approximately $15,000.
As a result of the investigation, Blunt, Penn, and Bazile were arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Prison on the following criminal charges: Possession with Intent to Distribute Controlled Dangerous Substance (3 counts), Handling of Machine Guns (2 counts), Possession of Firearm in presence of Controlled Dangerous Substance (5 counts and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Penn and Bazile were additionally charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
