St. James Parish to Host Veterans Day Celebration

Convent, La – Parish President Pete Dufresne is pleased to announce that St. James Parish Government is hosting its annual
Veterans Day Celebration in conjunction with the VFW at Lutcher Park on Thursday, November 10, from 4:30p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
at Lutcher Park.
The annual event will feature performances from local schools, free food, a firework show, and a 3-Round Volley led by the St.
James Parish VFW Post 5852. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5852 and American Legion Post 565 will be the Color
Guard for the event. The Lutcher High School Band conducted by Robert Blackburn and the St. James Parish Band
conducted by David Lott, St. Peter Chanel Bell Choir, Sixth Ward Elementary Arts Program, St. James Parish Magnet School,
Cypress Grove Montessori, and Yvonne’s Direction in Dance will all be preforming. Lutcher High School student Cole Dicharry
will be preforming TAPS and St. James Parish Talented Music student Harper Copponex will lead the National Anthem.
Parish President Pete Dufresne is proud of our local students for taking initiative to participate in the Veterans Day Event. He
said, “Our team has been preparing all year long for our Veterans Day Event. It’s an opportunity to celebrate our veterans and
recognize the service and courage of the brave men and women who fought for our country. It means a lot that so many of our
students are joining St. James Parish in honoring our veterans at this event.”
Louisiana’s National Officer to the VFW of the United States National Council of Administration Bobby Lovergne Jr. will be this
year’s special guest speaker. The Economic Development Board Chairman Mr. Paul Aucoin will chair the event and Pastor
Samuel Jones of Mount Calvary Baptist Church will be leading an invocation. Commander of the VFW Post 5852 Harold Miller
will lead the Remembrance of Deceased Veterans.
“I’d like to formally invite everyone in St. James Parish to this outstanding event,” President Dufresne noted. “Our Veterans
Day Celebration is a time for the whole community to come together, and something I personally look forward to all year long.”
The Veterans Day Celebration is not the only event St. James Parish is hosting for Veterans Day; there will also be a wreath
laying ceremony at the foot of the Veterans Memorial Bridge on November 10th at 3:30p.m. Government officials and
community members alike are invited to attend this special ceremony to honor our veterans.
