Former corrections cadet at Raymond Laborde Correction Center booked on several charges

BATON ROUGE, La. – Through good detective work, Raymond Laborde Correctional Center (RLCC) investigators secured evidence and a contraband smuggler’s confession. Monday night, RLCC officers questioned 38-year-old Nikki Bergeron of 1245 Highway 1 in Marksville, Louisiana. Bergeron admitted to recently smuggling two contraband cellphones to inmates at the prison.
Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Deputies booked Bergeron into the Avoyelles Parish Detention Center on the following charges; Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution – La. R.S. 14:402, and Malfeasance in Office – La. R.S. 14:134.
Bergeron resigned prior to her arrest. She was a corrections cadet and had worked at RLCC since August 8, 2022. As this is an ongoing investigation, no further details are available at this time.
