Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents arrested a Violet man for alleged operating or driving a vessel while impaired (DWI) following a two-vessel boating incident in St. Bernard Parish on Oct. 4.

Agents arrested Kevin Diaz, 53, for DWI after he was involved in a two-vessel boating incident and booked him into the St. Bernard Parish Jail.

Agents received information regarding a vessel collision with no injuries in Bayou La Loutre at roughly 8 a.m. on Oct. 4.  The operators were contacted and interviewed at the scene.  During the course of the investigation, agents determined that Diaz was impaired.

The penalties for DWI on the water are the same as driving a vehicle.  Anyone cited for a DWI on the water or on the road will lose his or her driver’s license and boating privileges for the specified time ordered by the judge in the case.

Operating or driving a vessel while impaired (DWI) brings a $300 to $1,000 fine and up to six months in jail.

Agents involved in the case are Cpl. Gary Levron, Agent Heather Fitzgerald, Sgt. Kyle Wagner, and Senior Agent Salvador Mangano.  The case will be forwarded to the office of District Attorney Perry Nicosia for prosecution.
