This alert from the US National Weather Service New Orleans Louisiana is the result of a lack of rain, the drop in humidity that occurred overnight, and the expectation of increased winds due to the presence of #HurricaneIan in the Gulf.
The local area is under a red flag warning today, which signals a risk of the spread of fire due to high winds and dry conditions.
There will be a fire weather watch on Wednesday, which is  issued when the combination of dry fuels and weather conditions support extreme fire danger.
Please avoid any open burning in the pink areas during this time frame!!!
Outside of the pink areas, please practice the following safety measures if you must conduct open burning on your property this week:
• Establish a burn pile at least 75 feet from any structures
• Create a 5-foot wet control line around the area
• Avoid the use of flammable liquids to ignite a burn pile
• Remain vigilant over the fire with a water source nearby at all times
• Alert a loved one or neighbor of your activities or conduct them with help
• If the fire does get out of control, call 911.
