Bayou Teche National Wildlife Refuge, Citizen Science Fish Collection Activity

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) at Bayou Teche National Wildlife Refuge (refuge) is seeking anglers of all ages to assist refuge staff and biologist from USFWS Baton Rouge, Fisheries, Wildlife and Conservation Office to collect fish on Scooter Pond. All species of fish caught will be recorded. Largemouth bass and sac-a-lait fish will be measured and a small bone in the head, an otolith, will be removed, sliced, and aged. Any information gathered will be used to determine the types of fish in the pond and overall pond health. We welcome the public to come out to Scoter Pond, catch some fish, and help refuge staff maintain a healthy fishery for everyone to enjoy.

Fishing is from 8 a.m., to noon on Saturday, October 1, 2022. Scooter Pond is located of off Alice C Road, 0.1 mile south of the Alice C Road and Hwy 90 underpass. All Louisiana fishing regulations apply and anglers may keep regulation size fish. Bring your fishing pole and something to sit on. A limited number of fishing poles, bait and fishery information will be available.
