LAPLACE — Jennifer Frizzell is announcing her candidacy for the District 6 School Board seat in St. John the Baptist Parish.

Frizzell’s education includes a bachelor’s degree in health science and a master’s degree in public health. She is certified as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and also holds a certification in team building. These certifications bring expert level competence to create real, sustainable change while taking action to eliminate waste. Frizzell has been employed as a health care executive for the past 22 years and is also an owner of a New Orleans based restaurant. She also serves as a board member for two non-profit agencies.  Frizzell has been a member of the Rising Star Baptist Church for the past 16 years.

Frizzell is the proud parent of a student enrolled at East St. John High School and has been an active voice in the school system since 2006 when her child was enrolled in Early Steps at St. John the Baptist Parish Schools. As the parent of a student with an intellectual disability, Frizzell has been an advocate for students, parents and educators in Alternative Assessment programs at the local and state level. Frizzell has volunteered as the parent representative for the school board’s Finance Committee for the past 11 years.

As a homeowner in District 6 for the past 21 years, Frizzell believes it is crucial to survey stakeholders in the district to listen to priorities of the constituents. She prides herself on responsiveness and accountability and plans to use these critical skillsets to better engage the families, businesses and homeowners of our community to enhance the quality of the school district.

“School safety, fiscal accountability of tax dollars, and ensuring students and educators have the resources needed to achieve success are priorities for our community,” Frizzell said. “Better communication with our educators and support staff is needed at the Board level. We have to listen to the people actually in the classroom or performing the work and seek input from them on ways to improve. St. John needs to expand the opportunities for all students to achieve by providing more community programs and mentorship opportunities, including our students with special needs. I want to be a responsive and accountable voice for our community.”
