Baton Rouge National Hunting and Fishing Day Set For Sept. 24 at Waddill Outdoor Education Center

The Baton Rouge edition of National Hunting and Fishing Day (NHFD) on Sept. 24 will offer something for every member of the family, from a youth fishing tournament, canoeing, free food, air-rifles, skeet shooting and archery, live animals, door prizes and many other outdoor activities and demonstrations.

The free event, sponsored by the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Foundation, will be held at Waddill Outdoor Education Center, located at 4142 North Flannery Road, Baton Rouge, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

Hot dogs from Associated Grocers and soft drinks from Coca Cola will be provided. And chefs from the Louisiana Culinary Institute will be there to perform cooking demonstrations and prepare various wild game and seafood recipes that can be sampled by those attending.

There will be informative exhibits on LDWF’s research and conservation efforts, as well as shooting and fishing demonstrations, and many other exhibits related to outdoor adventures.

The fishing tournament, for children 12 and under, will be from 8-10 a.m. with registration set for 8-9:30 a.m. Awards and a raffle will be held at 10:30 a.m.

The event is held nationwide on the fourth Saturday of every September to recognize generations of sportsmen and women for their contributions to conservation. This is the 40th anniversary of NHFD in Louisiana.
