NEW ORLEANS  — A Unified Command consisting of the Coast Guard, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, and High Point Gas Transmission LLC agreed to stand down the command post facility, Friday, at approximately 6 p.m. after the fire from the natural gas pipeline explosion on Lake Lery discontinued burning, Friday, around 4:45 p.m.

The Unified Command will continue to operate throughout the completion of the response to this incident, which will include the continuing investigation, source control assessment and repairs, and the Oil Spill Removal Organization (OSRO) response activities.

The line continues to be isolated as the valves on either end of the leak have been shut off.

There have been no reported injuries and responders have not identified impacts to the environment. Environmental Safety & Health Consulting Services crews are conducting continuous air monitoring for oxygen, flammability, carbon dioxide, volatile organic compounds, and hydrogen sulfide. They reported oxygen levels being consistent with ambient atmospheric conditions and all other parameters have been non-detected.

OSRO crews have deployed nearly 1,000 feet of containment boom around the pipeline. A safety marine information broadcast notice to mariners continues to alert vessels to the incident, to ensure vessels avoid the area and maintain a safe distance.

An overflight conducted Saturday morning reported no oil or sheen was visible.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
