On August 27, 2022 at approximately 11:58 p.m. motorist Tyler Yoder ended up upside down in a drainage canal in the 1500 block of Airline Drive, Kenner, La. Yoder was completely inverted and submerged under water and trapped in the vehicle unable to release his seatbelt. Yoder was drowning. Kenner Patrolman Chase Lawler arrived on scene within minutes of receiving the call and with the assistance of the reporting person, a passing motorist who witnessed the accident, Edwin McGee, they entered the canal and cut Yoder free. Yoder was then removed from the upside-down submerged vehicle and brought to safety. He was eventually booked with suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Chief Conley commends Patrol Officer Chase Lawler and the citizen Edwin McGee with saving the life of Tyler Yoder and reminds motorists of the dangers with driving under the influence. While Mr. Yoder is presumed innocent until proven guilty, Patrol Officer Lawler and Mr. McGee are heroes no doubt.
