Marrero – On September 2, 2022, around 3:30 A.M., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B began investigating a hit and run crash on the upper level of US 90B west (Westbank Expressway) near Ames Boulevard in Jefferson Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of two unidentified adult black males.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a motorized scooter was being driven west in the center lane of US90B upper level near Ames Boulevard. At the same time, a pickup truck was traveling behind the scooter. As the pickup approached the scooter’s location, the front of the pickup impacted the rear of the scooter. The impact caused the driver and passenger to be ejected from the scooter. After the collision, the driver of the pickup failed to stop and continued west on 90B with the scooter lodged under the pickup truck. The scooter eventually became engulfed in flames and dislodged from the pickup near Garden Road in Marrero.

Despite wearing DOTD approved helmets, both occupants of the scooter suffered fatal injuries. One of the occupants was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash and the other was transported to a local hospital where he ultimately died.  Troopers are working to identify the driver and passenger of the scooter.

Based off of evidence collected on the scene, Troopers were able to determine that the suspect pickup is a 2004 white extended cab Ford F-150 with a silver toolbox in the bed. The Ford will have significant damage to the front and may not display a license plate.

This crash remains under investigation and Troopers are working to identify the driver of the Ford. If anyone has information regarding this crash, we urge you to contact Louisiana State Police Troop B at 504-471-2775.
