LaPlace Woman Arrested for Animal Cruelty

On August 10, 2022, St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives received a report about allegations of animal cruelty. During the investigation, detectives obtained evidence that Keiondra Markey, 42, of LaPlace had committed the crimes of cruelty to animals.
Detectives obtained a judicial warrant for the arrest of Markey, and a judicial warrant to search her residence in the 1700 block of East Frisco Drive. Detectives, with assistance from St. John Parish Animal Control officers, executed the search warrant of the home August 18, 2022.
During the search of her residence, Markey was found to have 46 dogs living in deplorable conditions. The dogs were housed in small to medium sized crates, together, with no access to food or water. Animal Control removed the dogs from the residence for a veterinarian examination and evidence documentation.
Markey identified herself as a breeder of these dogs and would sell them for profit.
Based on the findings of the investigation, detectives arrested and charged Markey with 46 counts of cruelty to animals – aggravated (felony). She is being held in custody in lieu of a $460,000 bond.
