Unrestrained Passenger Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash

Dry Creek – On August 12, 2022, at approximately 4:15 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single-vehicle fatal crash on LA Hwy 113 near LA Hwy 394 in Beauregard Parish. The crash claimed the life of the passenger whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The preliminary investigation revealed the driver of a 2008 Chrysler Sebring was traveling south on LA 113. For reasons still under investigation, the Chrysler traveled off the roadway to the right and struck a tree. The Chrysler became engulfed in flames as a result of the crash.
The front seat passenger, who was not restrained, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver sustained serious injuries and was transported by air ambulance to an Alexandria area hospital for treatment. Seat belt use on the part of the driver is unknown due to the extent of damage to the Chrysler.
A toxicology sample was obtained from the driver and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that, while not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Please remember that motor vehicle crashes are preventable. Making good decisions while driving and obeying all traffic laws, can often mean the difference between life and death.
