2 Baton Rouge residents arrested in St. James Parish

Early this morning, August 12, 2022, deputies patrolling the north end of St. James Parish observed a vehicle making circles in the parking lot of the Sunshine Superstop and Casino area. Due to the suspicious behavior, deputies initiated a stop on the vehicle.
The driver and passenger of the vehicle were identified, both being from Baton Rouge.
During the investigation as to the behavior that was observed, deputies conducted a constitutional search of the vehicle and recovered marijuana and 4 guns, along with money and other drug paraphernalia.
Rance Mitchell, IV, 25 years old from Baton Rouge, the passenger in the vehicle was arrested on several charges. The driver was cited and released.
Throughout the year 2022, deputies have made efforts in curbing the violence in St. James Parish. As of today, deputies have recovered a total of 78 guns; 50 were collected as evidence, 21 have been turned into the Sheriff’s Office for various reasons, and 7 were stolen guns that have been recovered.
