A female, 23, and a male, 22, both of Reserve, were injured after being struck by a train on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 in LaPlace.
About 1 p.m., the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division responded to Main and Cardinal streets in LaPlace in reference to a vehicle hit by a train.
The preliminary investigation revealed the male was driving a 2022 Mitsubishi and failed to stop at the stop sign at the railroad crossing. As he attempted to cross the tracks, the train struck the front bumper and spun the vehicle off the track into a ditch.
The driver refused transport for medical care. The female passenger was transported to an area hospital with non- life threatening injuries and is in stable condition.
The driver was cited for failure to yield at railroad crossing and driving under suspension.
