Protecting lives is a top priority for deputies with the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office; and for Sgt. John Norsworthy that definitely includes helping a baby bald eagle in trouble.
Thanks to Sgt. Norsworthy, the baby eagle is on the mend after he rescued it after the bird apparently flew into the rear of a parked pickup truck in LaPlace neighborhood.
Officers responded Saturday, July 23, 2022 to a home in the 400 block of Maple Loop where a resident found the injured eagle on the roof of the truck.
Sgt. Norsworthy carefully captured the baby without causing it further injury. Wrapping the eagle in a towel, Sgt. Norsworthy transported the bird to Wings of Hope Bird Sanctuary in Livingston Parish where it is expected to make a full recovery and eventually be released back into its natural habitat.
