LDWF Agents Investigating Fatal Boating Incident in Tangipahoa Parish

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Division agents are investigating a boating fatality that occurred on July 23 in Tangipahoa Parish.

Agents were notified about a boating fatality around 4:30 p.m. in Lake Pontchartrain.  The body of Hunter Prevost, 21, of Loranger, was recovered around 7 p.m.

According to the other passengers on the vessel, Prevost fell off the front of a 25 foot vessel and got hit by the propeller.

During the investigation, agents detected that the operator of the vessel, Lane Keenan, 22, of Folsom, was impaired and arrested him for operating or driving a vessel while impaired (DWI), vehicular homicide and reckless operation of a vessel.

Vehicular homicide brings a $2,000 to $15,000 fine and five to 30 years in prison.  DWI brings a $300 to $1,000 fine and up to six month in jail.  Reckless operation of a vessel carries up to a $200 fine and 90 days in jail.

LDWF will be the lead investigative agency for this fatal boating incident.  Prevost’s body was turned over to the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office.
