New Orleans –– On July 16, 2022, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Troopers on proactive patrol in the New Orleans East area identified two vehicles suspected to be engaged in reckless driving activities. Troopers conducted a traffic stop at a gas station near the intersection of U.S. Highway 90 (Chef Menteur Highway) and Downman Road.

As Troopers approached the vehicles on foot, one of the two vehicles fled the scene. The other vehicle, a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado, also attempted to flee the scene by accelerating in the direction of a Trooper. This resulted in a Trooper discharging his service weapon towards the front of the vehicle. The Chevrolet continued to flee and led Troopers on a brief pursuit before coming to a stop near Interstate-10 and Michoud Boulevard. The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 21-year-old Jairo Caballero-Eufragio of Metairie, was taken into custody without further incident. Neither Caballero-Eufragio nor the responding Troopers were injured during the incident.

After obtaining an arrest warrant, Caballero was booked into the Orleans Parish Criminal Justice Center on charges of Aggravated Assault with a Motor Vehicle Upon a Peace Officer and Aggravated Flight from an Officer. This investigation remains active and ongoing.
