Denham Springs – On July 15, 2022, shortly before 1:00 am, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a two-vehicle crash on LA 16 southbound, south of LA 64 in Livingston Parish.  The crash ultimately claimed the life of 33-year-old Christinia Estave of Denham Springs.

The initial investigation revealed that a Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy was responding to a call of service in fully marked 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe.  The deputy was traveling south in the left lane of travel on LA 16 when the deputy struck the rear end of a 2004 Saturn Ion.  For reasons still under investigation, the Saturn was completely stopped in the left lane of travel prior to the crash.  The driver of the Saturn, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash, was transported to a local hospital where she eventually succumbed to her injuries. 

The deputy was also unrestrained at the time of the crash and sustained minor injuries.  A toxicology sample was collected from both drivers and will be submitted for analysis.  This crash remains under investigation.

Speeding, impairment, and lack of seatbelt use continue to be the leading causes of fatal crashes.  Troopers encourage the public to have a plan in place to avoid driving impaired.  Speeding reduces a driver’s ability to steer safely around curves or objects in the roadway, extends the distance necessary to stop a vehicle, and increases the distance a vehicle travels while the driver reacts to a situation.  Troopers would like to remind motorists of the importance of safe decisions behind the wheel.  While not all crashes are survivable, wearing a seatbelt greatly reduces the chance of being killed or seriously injured in a crash.
