Norco – On July 15, 2022, shortly after 2:30 am, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B responded to a two-vehicle crash on I-10 west near MP #216.5 on the Bonnet Carre Spillway Bridge in St. Charles Parish. The crash claimed the life of an unidentified driver.

The initial investigation revealed that a 2019 International box truck was traveling west on I-10 near MP #216.5 in the right lane. At the same time, a 2012 Toyota Prius was being driven by an unidentified driver in the right lane of I-10 west, approaching the rear of the box truck. For reasons still under investigation, the front of the Toyota impacted the rear of the box truck. As a result of the impact, the Toyota became engulfed in flames.

The driver of the Toyota suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Positive identification is pending by the St. Charles Parish Coroner’s Office. Evidence found during the investigation suggests speed of the Toyota was a contributing factor in the crash. The driver of the box truck was uninjured.

Impairment on the part of both drivers is unknown and routine toxicology results are pending. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued or distracted, follow all traffic laws and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
