NEW ORLEANS — Jesuit-based Retif Oil came out on top during the inaugural Crescent City Sports Summer Prep League with a ninth inning 8-7 victory over the John Curtis Christian River Ridge Patriots Thursday evening.

First baseman Hunter Oufnac was selected MVP of the championship series, which began on Wednesday with Retif Oil’s 4-3 semifinal win against St. Charles Catholic-based Cretin Townsend Homes.

Both teams persevered through the semifinal game in Lutcher despite part of the Bulldogs field not being lit. Townsend Homes lost chances to bring runs in during the fifth and sixth innings, unable to capitalize on loaded bases with one out.

Townsend Homes was ranked fourth in the final standings of the regular season with a 11-3-1 record, trailing behind Retif Oil, Malcolm Dienes (Rummel) and the River Ridge Patriots.

Also representing the River Parishes in the Crescent City Sports Summer Prep League was Hahnville, placing fifth with an 8-4-1 record.
