**Extension** Mandalay National Wildlife Refuge Announces Drawing for Alligator Harvest Tags

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will select two individuals to harvest alligators from Mandalay National Wildlife Refuge (Refuge) in Terrebonne Parish, LA. Upon meeting illegibility requirements and submitting an application form, permittees will be selected by a randomly drawn lottery.  

 

The lottery application submission deadline has been extended to Friday, July 22, 2022. All applications must be submitted or postmarked by 3:30p.m., on the above date and mailed to:

Franklin, LA 70538   

 

The drawing will be held on July 29, 2022, at 10:30 at the Refuge Office, 1725 Willow St., Franklin, LA 70538.  Applicants do not have to be present and will be notified by phone.   

 

Each permittee will receive 43 alligator tags and be assigned a specific harvest area on the Refuge. Only one application per person will be accepted. Permits are non-transferable. The Service shall receive 40% of the total proceeds from alligator sales.  

 

To qualify for the alligator tags, the two selected permittees will have to remove 500 nutria each from the Refuge prior to the 2023 alligator season. The selectees can participate in the Coastwide Nutria Control Program administered by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
