St. John the Baptist Parish Library System’s Summer Reading Program is in full swing.  There have been crafts, story times and a performance at each library branch for patrons of all ages. The Summer Reading Program will continue throughout the month of July, with more great activities.

Our library branches will host programs weekly based on the “Oceans of Possibilities” theme.  The programs will consist of grab-and-go kits, movie days, STEM activities for teens and adult crafts. Please stop by any of our locations to learn more about these activities.

The library system will host “Outdoor Story Time” at local parks in the parish at 1 p.m.  Here is the list below:

  • Wednesday, July 6 at REGALA Park in Reserve
  • Wednesday, July 13 at Cambridge Park in LaPlace

“Story Time” will be held for children, ages 0 and up, every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Reserve Library. This weekly program is a time for young children and their parents or caretakers to interact in a comfortable setting. Each session will include stories, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities.

Families are invited to a performance of “The Little Mermaid,” presented by the St. John Theatre.  Here are the dates and times:

  • Wednesday, July 13 at the Reserve Library – 4 p.m.
  • Thursday, July 14 at the Edgard Library – 4 p.m.
  • Friday, July 15 at the Garyville Library – 4 p.m.

The Reserve Library will host “Spectacular Science” in person and virtually.  Children and teens can pick up take and make bags to create ice cream in a bag from Monday, July 18 through Friday, July 22. The tutorial will be posted on Facebook on Monday, July 18.

The Garyville Library will have an “Escape the Titanic” escape room.  Patrons of all ages are invited to enjoy a trip aboard the Titanic when the ship suddenly hits an iceberg. While the water level is rising, an escape must be made before it’s too late. Join us from Monday, July 25 through Friday, July 29.

This month’s Make Shoppe will feature Oyster Jewelry Holders. Adult patrons can pick up take and make bags from Wednesday, July 27 through Saturday, July 30.

St. John the Baptist Library in partnership with the Library Speakers Consortium will be offering webinars and online events for patrons of all ages to enjoy. There will be a range of talks from bestselling authors and thought leaders. The first event will feature Alka Joshi, author of “The Henna Artist.”  Please register for all upcoming events using the link below: https://libraryc.org/stjohnlib.

There will be a multitude of other programs hosted at each library branch throughout the month for children, teens, and adults. All branches of St. John the Baptist Parish Libraries will be closed on Monday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day.
