Mandalay National Wildlife Refuge Announces Drawing for Alligator Harvest

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will select two eligible hunters to harvest alligators on Mandalay National Wildlife Refuge (Refuge) located in Terrebonne Parish, LA based on a lottery system. Permittees will be selected by random drawing, provided they meet the minimum criteria and application form is acceptable.

Lottery application forms must be returned and postmarked by 3:30p.m., Friday July 1, 2022 and mailed to:

Drawing will be held at 10:30 at the Refuge Office, 1725 Willow St., Franklin, LA 70538 on July 7, 2022.  Applicants need not be present and will be notified by phone.

Two permittees will be selected and a quota of 500 nutria will have to be filled by each permittee prior to the 2023 alligator season to qualify for 2023 alligator tags. The selectees can participate in the Coastwide Nutria Control Program administered by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Each permittee will receive 43 alligator tags and be assigned a specific harvest area on the Refuge. Only one application per person will be accepted. Permits will be selected through a lottery and are non-transferable. The Service shall receive 40% of the total proceeds from alligator sales.
