Division is a threat to our nation

The Pledge of Allegiance states that we are one nation under God, with liberty and justice for all. I remember while raising a family we had differences, but handled them with the liberty to express ourselves and move on.

Today, our country is divided and has as much hatred as I’ve ever seen.  America has problems and I’m sure long before I was born, the country had some of the same conditions we now have.

As we approach July 4 and celebrate our independence, I think it’s fitting to share the following written by Abraham Lincoln years ago:

TEN CANNOTS

By Abraham Lincoln

“You cannot bring prosperity by discouraging thrift.”

“You cannot help small men by tearing down big men.”

“You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.”

“You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.”

“You cannot help the poor man by destroying the rich.”

“You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income.”

“You cannot further the brotherhood of many by inciting class hatred.”

“You cannot establish security on borrowed money.”

“You cannot build character and courage by taking away man’s initiative and

independence.”

God gives us the solutions to all of America’s problems in 2 Chronicles 7:14: “…if my people will humble themselves and pray, and search for me, and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and forgive their sins and heal their land.”
