Amador & K9 Titus place 3rd in canine patrol competition

LAREDO, Texas — St. John Parish Deputy Stephen Amador and K9 Titus participated in the 2022 National Narcotic Detector Dog Association’s National Training Conference May 30 through June 3 in Laredo, Texas. Canine teams represented more than 100 local, state and federal law enforcement agencies from throughout the United States.

Deputy Amador and Titus placed third of 26 teams in the canine patrol competition. During this competition, each team had to complete two timed scenarios. The teams were judged on obedience and control of their canine on and off leash, tactical movement with their canine, ability to accurately fire a weapon while handling their canine, the canine’s ability to stay still during gunfire, canine’s ability to navigate through obstacles to apprehend a suspect and the handler’s ability to get the canine to release the suspect by verbal command and return to the handler’s side.

Titus is a 7-year-old Belgian Malinois.
