TPSO arrests man for fraud; victim traveled from LaPlace

Chief Jimmy Travis reports the arrest of 41 year old Guy Colona, a white male resident of Independence, for theft by fraud and narcotics related charges.
On May 28, 2022, detectives with the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office began investigating the theft of a motor vehicle that occurred on Brickyard Road in Independence.
During the investigation detectives learned the victim traveled from LaPlace to Independence from in an attempt to trade his vehicle with Colona. Upon arrival, the victim made the trade with Colona and left the scene, only to later learn all the documents provided to him for his new vehicle were fake.
On June 3, 2022, detectives received a call from a second victim who stated she purchased a vehicle from Colona for $1,000.00 dollars and could not get the vehicle registered. The victim advised she learned the vehicle was previously reported stolen through TPSO and wanted to turn the vehicle over.
After speaking with the victim, Detectives traveled to the home of Colona located on Brickyard Road in Independence, where they were able to take Colona into custody. While on scene detectives subsequently located 3 marijuana plants growing on the front porch.
Guy Colona was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on the following charges:
(2) Counts – Theft By Fraud
(3) Counts – Cultivation of Marijuana
