| Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents arrested two men for allegedly operating or driving a vessel while impaired (DWI) on May 28 and May 30 in Iberia and Pointe Coupee parishes.
Agents arrested John Benoit Jr., 42, of Addis, on May 28 for DWI on the water in Grand River in Iberia Parish. Agents also arrested Zackary Guillory, 24, of Port Allen, on May 30 for DWI on the water in False River in Pointe Coupee Parish. Guillory was also cited for failing to comply with personal flotation device (PFD) requirements.
Agents on patrol in Grand River observed Benoit operating a vessel when they stopped him for a boating safety inspection. Agents noticed signs of impairment and arrested him for DWI. He was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail.
Agents on patrol in False River observed Guillory operating a vessel and stopped him for a boating safety inspection. Agents noticed signs of impairment and arrested him for DWI. Agents also found that Guillory did not possess a PFD for everyone on board the vessel. He was booked into the Pointe Coupee Parish Jail.
The penalties for DWI are the same as driving a vehicle. Anyone cited for a DWI on the water or on the road will lose his or her driver’s license and boating privileges for the specified time ordered by the judge in the case.
DWI brings a $300 to $1,000 fine and up to six months in jail. Failing to comply with PFD requirements brings up to a $100 fine.
