Hammond man arrested for shooting during a family argument; warrant issued for another

Hammond, LA – On May 21, 2022, the Hammond Police Department responded to the 700 block of South Cypress Street in reference to a report of shots fired in the area.
Upon arrival, it was determined the shooting occurred at a residence in that same block. HPD officers learned Keith Landry, 44 years old of Hammond, got into an argument with his family, pulled out a gun, and shot one round into the floor inside of his house.
The next day, at approximately 8:30 pm, officers responded again to the 700 block of South Cypress Street in reference to reports of shots being fired. Upon arrival, it was determined the shooting occurred at the same residence. Officers were told that an individual, who had been shot several times, was enroute to North Oaks Medical Center.
During the investigation, HPD learned that Kendrick McGowan, 25 years old of Hammond, got into an argument with Landry about the prior night’s incident. During this argument, McGowan shot Landry multiple times. Landry was treated for non-life threatening injuries and is listed in stable condition at North Oaks.
Detectives obtained a warrant for McGowan’s arrest for one count each of Attempted Second Degree Murder, Obstruction of Justice, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Illegal Discharge of a Firearm. On May 24, 2022, McGowan was arrested by the Hammond Police Department Street Crimes Unit.
Warrants have also been issued on Keith Landry for one count each of Illegal Discharge of a Firearm and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
