Acadia Parish – Shortly before 4:30 p.m. on May 21, 2022, Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 13 near Walter Robinson Lane in Acadia Parish. The crash claimed the life of 65-year-old Karen M. Bollich of Eunice.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2003 Kia Rio, being driven by 31-year-old Jasmine Carrier of Crowley, was traveling south on LA 13 and crossed the center line into the northbound travel lane. At the same time, a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by Bollich, was traveling north on LA 13. Carrier overcorrected in an attempt to steer back into the southbound lane, which caused the Rio to rotate sideways in the path of the Equinox. The front of the Equinox struck the Rio on the driver’s door.
Despite being properly restrained, Bollich suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office. Restraint use on the part of Carrier is unknown and she was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
Impairment on the part of both drivers is unknown at this time but toxicology results have been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
Louisiana State Troopers would like to remind motorist to never drive while impaired, fatigued, or distracted, and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained. Taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
Troop I has investigated 14 fatal crashes resulting in 16 deaths since the beginning of 2022.
