Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents are working a two vessel collision that resulted in one fatality, one missing boater and injuries to two other boaters in Pointe Coupee Parish last night, May 20.

The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on May 20 and it involved a near head on collision between a 20-foot vessel and a bass boat.

The body of the operator of the 20-foot vessel, Shea Mouton, 31, of Fordoche, was recovered from False River following the incident.  Search and rescue crews are still searching for the operator of the bass boat.

A passenger of the 20-foot vessel and a passenger of the bass boat were both ejected into the water and were picked up by a good Samaritan.  They were both treated for minor injuries.

LDWF will be the lead investigative agency for this fatal boating incident.  It is unknown what caused the vessels to collide at this point.  Mouton’s body was turned over to the Pointe Coupee Parish Coroner’s Office to determine an official cause of death.
