GONZALES River Parishes Community College DEI Action Team is hosting guest speaker, Monique Edwards, the founding member of the Edwards Law Group, LLC for their last presentation of the spring 2022 semester on Wednesday, May 4 at 12:30 p.m. at the Gonzales campus in the BASF multipurpose room.

Edwards will be visiting with RPCC students, faculty, staff and the community to discuss her career, academic journey, and to discuss how to be successful.

“It is always important to share our stories, to continue the tradition of each generation doing better than the one before,” Edwards said. “In my life there have been people who poured life into me and those who showed me who I didn’t want to be. As I live, I have one credo: be a committee of one and be the change you want to see. It is my hope that someone will be touched to believe in themselves and the gifts they have been given.”

Her firm concentrates in the areas of medical management; governmental and community relations; strategic business solutions; and energy matters. Edwards is a visiting professor at Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She is a member of the United States Commission on Civil Rights, Louisiana Advisory Committee and she is also a member of the Louisiana Mineral Law Institute Advisory Council, where she is the first African American woman to serve.

Previously, she was appointed by Governor Bobby Jindal as the first African American secretary of the Louisiana State Mineral and Energy Board and Assistant Secretary for the Office of Mineral Resources of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

“I can’t speak highly enough of Ms. Edwards. I am so happy that she is coming to RPCC to impart on our community her knowledge and expertise. We are in for a real treat, and I know we will all walk away with a new outlook on this life’s journey,” said RPCC’s Director of Student Services Ariel Triggs.
