A retirement to remember

Betty Reid Soskin served as a full-time National Park Service ranger for only about 11 years, but her retirement at the age of 100 drew a lot of attention, according to the Association of Mature American Citizens [AMAC]. The oldest active ranger worked at the Rosie the Riveter Home Front National Historical Park in Richmond, CA, which opened in the year 2000. Reporting on her retirement, MSNBC noted that she was instrumental in gaining recognition for the contributions of African American women who worked on the home front during World War II by helping to develop and conduct a program focused them.

A sudsy toast

How did you spend National Beer Day? Arizona Diamondbacks rookie Seth Beer celebrated the April 7 event with an awesome home game home run against the San Diego Padres, reports the Association of Mature American Citizens [AMAC]. The team posted a video of the fateful home run on Instagram appropriately narrated by the beer-drinking pro wrestling champ, Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Looking for a job? Here’s a very cool employment opportunity that you might enjoy.  The Association of Mature American Citizens [AMAC] says the U.K. Antarctic Heritage Trust is looking for candidates for several positions at its Port Lockroy base. They’re looking for a base leader, a shop manager, a general assistant to work in its gift shop and someone to run its post office and keep track of the local penguins from November 2022 to March 2023. Temperatures on Goudier Island, Antarctica where Port Lockroy is located range from five degrees to 33 degrees. How cool is that?
