Ponchatoula Police building struck in shooting

On Saturday night at 9:32 p.m., Ponchatoula Police responded to a shooting in the 200 block of W. Hickory Street.
No injuries have been reported. The police department building was hit twice and the awning was hit once. A citizen’s vehicle was also hit. Police recovered over a dozen shell casings at the scene and believe there were at least two shooters. We are actively investigating this incident and anyone with information is asked to contact Ponchatoula Police at 985-386-6548.
Police chief Bry Layrisson would like to thank all of the assisting agencies for keeping our citizens and visitors safe. The festival is open and the crowds have arrived to continue celebrating our 50th strawberry festival.
