KENNER – On April 5, 2022, Kenner Police obtained a warrant of arrest for Darrin Smith, 32, New Orleans, for the crime of Second-Degree Murder. Shortly after obtaining the arrest warrant US Marshals Task Force members arrested Smith in New Orleans.
Smith, the suspect, who shot 27-year-old Devin Borne from LaPlace, on March 27, 2022, had cooperated with the investigation the night of the shooting in which he provided a statement and claimed self-defense.
It was only recently that an individual who wished to remain anonymous, provided cell phone video of the shooting to the police. The video contradicted Smith’s statement and clearly shows a physical altercation between Borne and Smith. Both, Smith and Borne appear to draw weapons. Borne then takes several steps and backs away from Smith at which time Smith pursues Borne, moves past two individuals who attempt to actively stop him, then shoots Borne.
Smith was taken into custody in New Orleans and booked as a fugitive.
