Minden – Earlier this morning, just before 4:00 a.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop G began investigating a single-vehicle fatality crash on US Hwy 79 just north of Grider Road. This crash claimed the life of 65-year-old Gene Latin.
The initial investigation revealed Latin was driving southbound on US Hwy 79 in a 2008 Honda Accord. Latin struck a downed tree which had fallen into the roadway after a previous storm. After impact with the tree, the Accord exited the roadway.
Latin, who was wearing his seat belt, suffered fatal injuries as a result of this crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Webster Parish Coroner. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor; however, routine toxicology samples will be submitted for analysis.
In 2022, Troop G has investigated seven fatal crashes, which have resulted in eight deaths.
