LAPLACE — Law students from St. Charles Catholic High School in LaPlace recently learned about the operations of St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office during a visit to the Lloyd B. Johnson Law Enforcement Center in LaPlace.

Lt. Christie Chauvin spoke about the overall operations of the department including how a case is worked, beginning with the 911 call for service to the prosecution.

Captain Chip Wale spoke about the continuous training for law enforcement, which is essential to improve skills, increase professionalism, and enhance overall job performance. He also led a demonstration on the use of robotics. Students were able to tour the training center and shooting range and watch officers practice defensive tactics that officers may implement to control subjects with minimal chance of injury.
