On March 28, 2022, Jerret Cortez of 249 Vivian St. Morgan City, LA, age 33, pled guilty to Distribution of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance. Cortez was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lana Chaney, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Alvin Turner Jr. This guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement with prosecutors following a narcotics operation targeting street level drug dealers in Assumption Parish.

 On April 15, 2020, Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office narcotics agents, during the course of an ongoing narcotics operation, purchased a quantity of methamphetamine from Jerret Cortez in the Bayou L’Ourse area. The narcotics were placed into evidence for safe keeping. On November 6, 2020, Cortez was indicted by the office of District Attorney Ricky Babin and subsequently arrested.  

 Upon entering a guilty plea to the above-mentioned charges, pursuant to the plea agreement with prosecutors, Cortez was sentenced to 4 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
