On March 23, 2022, at approximately 1:10 am, the Hammond Police Department responded to a two vehicle, head-on crash at the intersection of East Thomas Street and North Chestnut Street. The crash claimed the life of Brittany Fayard, 26 years old of Albany.
For reasons still under investigation, Fayard’s vehicle, a 2005 Ford Mustang, was traveling the wrong direction on East Thomas Street and collided head-on with a westbound 2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac.
Fayard, who was restrained, sustained fatal injuries in the crash. The other driver, who was also restrained, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to North Oaks Medical Center for treatment. Toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers, given the severity of the crash, and were submitted for analysis.
While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, distracted, inattentive, and drunk driving continue to be leading causes of crashes in our state. The Hammond Police Department urges all motorists to stay alert while driving. A lapse in one’s awareness can have deadly consequences.
