VACHERIE — The Laura Plantation Company, LLC announces a scholarship program for graduating seniors of St. James High School. Two scholarships, each valued at $1,000, will be awarded. One scholarship will go to a student who has been accepted into a degree program at a university; the other will be awarded to a student who has been accepted into a degree or certificate program at a technical school.

The scholarship application calls on students to reflect upon four challenges faced by young residents in the River Parishes and how their college or technical school education will help them to face and overcome these challenges. The applications will be evaluated by a panel of independent judges experienced in the field of education.

According to Dr. Latricia Blain, the school counselor at St. James High School, 61 graduating seniors are eligible to apply for the cash award that can be used for tuition, textbooks or any other expenses. Scholarship forms can be obtained from Dr. Blain in the counselor’s office at St. James High School.

The Laura Plantation Company, LLC, operates Laura: A Creole Heritage Site, a historic attraction in Vacherie, Louisiana.
