Last week, Markese Dabney of 211 Cardinal St. Labadieville, LA, age 27, pled guilty to Aggravated 2^nd Degree Battery and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Dabney was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Thomas Daigle, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Steven Tureau. This guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement with prosecutors following a 2019 shooting.

 

On February 16, 2019, Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Assumption Community Hospital in Napoleonville in reference to a male subject who was brought in suffering from a gunshot wound to his arm. Detectives responded and learned that the victim had been involved in a verbal altercation with a male subject identified as Markese Dabney near a Labadieville residence. During the altercation, Dabney discharged multiple rounds from a handgun in the victim’s direction. The victim was struck in the arm with one of the rounds and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Through a criminal history check, it was learned that Dabney has a prior felony conviction for narcotics possession. Detectives were able to secure a warrant of arrest for Dabney who was subsequently arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center.

 

Upon entering a guilty plea to the above-mentioned charges, pursuant to the plea agreement with prosecutors, Dabney was sentenced to 20 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
