RESERVE — Nearly seven months after Hurricane Ida, scholars at East St. John High School will return to full-time, in-person instruction beginning Wednesday, March 23.

East St. John is the only school in the district that has continued to operate on an A/B day schedule due to limited space at the Leon Godchaux campus.

While repairs are ongoing at the main campus, the 300 and 400 buildings are among the areas of the school that have been cleared to welcome students.

Freshmen and alternative assessment students will attend the original ESJH school site beginning March 23, utilizing the 400 building and the industrial arts buildings, in addition to available classrooms in the STEM building.

Sophomores, juniors and seniors will continue to report to the Leon Godchaux Junior High campus for in-person instruction five days per week.

Bus transportation will remain the same, and students will be dropped off at both sites.

During last week’s school board meeting, site leaders announced that 265 students will be shifting to the East St. John campus. The intent is that, as more space becomes available, the entire student body will return home.

All South Consulting Engineers are continuing to update the St. John School Board on the status of building repairs. A bid on East St. John interior repairs opened this week. Bids for roofing and field house work are scheduled to open in April.
