Jean Hymel Gendron, age 84, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2022. She was a native of Reserve, LA and a resident of LaPlace, LA.
Jean graduated from Leon Godchaux High School in 1955. She began working with her father in his business, Hymel’s Auto Parts & Service and became co-owner with her brother. Jean worked for more than 60 years until her health declined in 2019. She was a member and officer of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) and was a long time parishioner of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.
Jean loved going to Disney World and the casinos, playing po-ke-no, riding in the LaPlace Mardi Gras parade, Christmas, shopping, traveling and cooking for her family.
Beloved wife of the late Jerry James Gendron. Loving mother of Gail Bergeron (Francis), Alan Gendron (Linda), Larry Gendron (Lori), Kathy Cambre and the late Susan Walls. Loving grandmother of Brandon Gendron (Summer), Kory Gendron (Ashley), Casey Cambre (Jamie), Derek Cambre, Allison Bergeron Ortega, Lauryn Bergeron Donaldson (Josh), Lance Gendron, Lane Gendron (Laura), Brittany Walls and Brooke Walls (Israel). Loving great-grandmother of Brinley, Nathan, Lexie, Talan, Peyton, Trey, MacKenzie, Isabella, Anastasia, Alfredo “Freddy”, Saige, Grace, Annie, Nolan, Mariah, Seth and Benjamin. Daughter of the late Rowley and Mabel Hymel. Sister of James “Jimmy” Hymel (Janet) and the late Rowley “Sonny” Hymel, Jr. (Jeanette), Bryan Hymel (Marie Etta) and Katherine “Teenie” Hymel. Daughter-in-law of the late Marie Lise Landeche Gendron and Jules Gendron. Sister-in-law of Virgil Gendron, Sylvia Boudreaux (the late Louis) and the late Floyd Gendron (the late Joyce).
Thank you to her many caregivers over the past three years and the Ponchatoula Community Care Center.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visitation and Funeral Mass at Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, 2806 W. Airline Hwy., LaPlace, LA on Saturday, March 12, 2022. Visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 12:00 p.m. Interment in St. John Memorial Cemetery, LaPlace, LA.
In lieu of flowers, masses are preferred at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.
