Thieves attempt to steal ATM in St. James Parish

This morning, February 18, a little after 3:30am, deputies responded to the First American Bank branch in South Vacherie in reference to an alarm activation. Deputies arrived and located an abandoned truck with chains attached to both the truck and the ATM.
Through investigation deputies learned that 3 suspects were involved in the attempted theft. Deputies and detectives set up a perimeter to search the area for the suspects.
The truck was confirmed stolen from St. Charles Parish about an hour before St. James Sheriff’s Office received the alarm call.
