Two juveniles were arrested Sunday, February 13, 2022, during a stolen vehicle investigation.
On Sunday, February 13, 2022, about 2 p.m., deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop after receiving a notification of a vehicle stolen from Jefferson Parish traveling eastbound on River Road towards West Second Street in LaPlace.
While attempting to initiate a traffic stop at West Second Street, the driver, later identified as a 16-year-old female from Marrero, increased speed and refused to stop. A pursuit followed as the female traveled to Cardinal and West Fifth streets onto Hemlock Street. She then turned west on West Airline Highway, onto Belle Terre Boulevard to Fairway Drive to Carrollwood Drive. The vehicle continued to travel on several streets in Carrollwood subdivision, failing to stop at several stop signs. The female continued to Lafitte Drive where she stopped the vehicle momentarily in a dead end circle. The female then turned in the circle, sped forward and struck a parked vehicle. She continued to travel east onto Fairway Drive, then on several streets in Riverlands subdivision, failing to stop at several stop signs.
As the vehicle appeared to be entering a dead end at Frisco Street, the female slammed brakes, turned and traveled west on the sidewalk of Fairway Drive, between Frisco and Greenwood drives. Returning to the roadway, the vehicle continued to travel on Fairway Drive where the female lost control and crashed into a metal pole near Riverlands Golf and Country Club.
The passenger, identified as a 17-year male from Harvey, exited the vehicle and fled west on Fairway Drive where he was immediately captured and detained. The female also was detained. Both were transported to a local hospital. The male was treated for minor injuries and released. The male was charged with illegal possession of stolen things (felony) and resisting an officer (misd). He is being held in custody until his court date February 15, 2022.
The female was transported to a New Orleans hospital where she is in stable condition.
A warrant will be obtained for the female’s arrest, charging her with aggravated flight from an officer by vehicle (felony); illegal possession of stolen things, vehicle, value over $1,000 (felony); simple criminal damage to property (felony); hit and run (misd); reckless operation of a motor vehicle (misd); and no driver’s license (misd).
