On February 1, 2022, Trooper N. Dowdle was awarded the American Legion “Americanism Award”, which is reflective of his outstanding service. Trooper Dowdle began his career with Louisiana State Police in 2018 after serving 11 years in the United States Marines as an Intelligence Officer, achieving the rank of Major. During his tenure with LSP, Trooper Dowdle is responsible for several significant arrests in the New Orleans Metropolitan area, as described below:
In June of 2020, Trooper Dowdle observed a vehicle traveling on Airline Highway, which was reported stolen in a carjacking. Upon initiating a traffic stop, a vehicle pursuit began to which the subjects eventually fled on foot before being apprehended. The arrests led to the carjacking and a murder being solved in Orleans Parish.
In January of 2021, Trooper Dowdle conducted a traffic stop where numerous checkbooks along with signed, printed checks were located in the vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the occupants in the vehicle were part of a criminal operation and responsible for over $1,000,000.00 in stolen checks throughout southern Louisiana.
The above arrests reflect a portion of Trooper Dowdle’s achievements. In 2021, he investigated 167 traffic crashes, including 2 fatality crashes, removed 57 impaired drivers from our roadways, made 181 criminal arrests and seized 22 firearms associated with narcotics, 2 of which were stolen.
Recently, Trooper Dowdle displayed his commitment and compassion for the citizens of Louisiana. On January 21st, 2022, he observed a subject sitting on the guardrail of I-10 over Carrolton Avenue in New Orleans. The subject was suicidal and after 90 minutes of speaking with him, Trooper Dowdle was able to convince him to come walk away from the guardrail and receive medical attention, saving his life.
Trooper Dowdle continues to display his commitment to the citizens of Louisiana and the core values of Louisiana State Police.
