Paincourtville Man to Serve 23 Years Pursuant to Rape Plea

On January 26, 2022, Dequan Stewart of 164 Hwy 403 Paincourtville, LA, age 21, pled guilty to 2nd Degree Rape. Stewart was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Thomas Daigle, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Jason Verdigets. This guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement with prosecutors in connection with a 2019 Robbery investigation.
On May 22, 2019, Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Deputies received a report of a robbery near Napoleonville. During their investigation, detectives learned that 4 individuals traveled from Lake Charles to the Napoleonville area to purchase narcotics and firearms. Detectives learned that the subjects were robbed and one of the subjects were raped at gun point. The victim was transported to a medical facility where a sexual assault kit was performed and submitted for analysis. Detectives were notified that a DNA sample taken from the victim was identified as belonging to Dequan Stewart. Stewart was subsequently arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center.
Upon entering a guilty plea to the above-mentioned charge, pursuant to the plea agreement with prosecutors, Stewart was sentenced to 23 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
