St. James Parish Hospital was recently named one of five 2021 Safety Star Award recipients by the Louisiana Hospital Association (LHA) Trust Funds.

The Safety Star Award is presented to healthcare facilities and physician office practices that have successfully implemented new processes or developed innovative ideas to improve patient safety.

St. James Parish Hospital was recognized for its patient safety initiative, “Preventing COVID-19 Hospital-Acquired Infections for Patients, Visitors and Staff: 1st Wave and Beyond.”

“The first wave of COVID-19 presented many unknowns and variables for our staff. Our team worked diligently and efficiently to prevent patients, visitors and staff from contracting COVID-19 at the hospital. We were awarded for the success of these efforts and the ongoing infection control work being done,” said Brittany Bourgeois, RN, Chief Quality Officer.

“Reflecting on the past 2 years is very humbling. We have grown so much as an organization. We are proud of everyone for their continued strength, endurance and teamwork to constantly put our patients and the community first,” said Brittany.

Safety Star Award recipients will receive recognition from LHA Trust Funds and a $10,000 award for their efforts. The LHA Trust Funds has served Louisiana healthcare facilities and physicians with insurance solutions for more than four decades.
