Kyreal Jackson graduates from Mississippi College

Kyreal Jackson of Lutcher graduated from Mississippi College in recent commencement exercises. Jackson earned a master of science in biology medical sciences.

Mississippi College honored the graduates of both summer and fall semesters in three campus ceremonies on Friday, Dec. 17. Dr. Blake Thompson, MC president, welcomed the graduates and gave opening remarks, while Dr. Tommy Leavelle, retired professor in the Department of Mathematics at MC and the 2020-21 Distinguished Professor of the Year, gave the Commencement Address.

Thompson reiterated MC’s theme, “Rise Up,” for the 2021-22 Academic Year, inviting the MC Family to make this a year built on the “good work” God calls us all to do. The encouragement taken from Nehemiah 2:18 illustrates that, although situations can change at a moment’s notice, God will strengthen our hands.

Ciera Pennon named to Upper Iowa University’s Fall 2021 Dean’s List

Upper Iowa University is pleased to announce the Dean’s List for the Fall 2021 semester. To be honored, the undergraduate must have earned a minimum 3.50 GPA and be enrolled as a full-time student. Among those named to the Dean’s List was Ciera Pennon, a psychology major from LaPlace, Louisiana.

Therese Rodriguez Named to SNHU President’s List

Therese Rodriguez of Luling has been named to Southern New Hampshire University‘s Fall 2021 President’s List.

Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.700 and above are named to the President’s List. Full-time status is achieved by earning 12 credits; undergraduate day students must earn 12 credits in the fall or spring semester, and online students must earn 12 credits in either EW1 & EW2, EW3 & EW4, or EW5 & EW6.

Tasheanna Smith & Tori Hilaire named to SNHU Fall 2021 Dean’s List

It is with great pleasure that Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) congratulates the following local students on being named to the Fall 2021 Dean’s List: Tasheanna Smith of LaPlace and Tori Hilaire of Luling.

 

Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.500 to 3.699 are named to the Dean’s List. Full-time status is achieved by earning 12 credits; undergraduate day students must earn 12 credits in the fall or spring semester, and online students must earn 12 credits in either EW1 & EW2, EW3 & EW4, or EW5 & EW6.

Robin Torres awarded scholarship

 

BASF recently awarded $10,000 in scholarships to four students at Louisiana State University’s College of Engineering. Among those students was Robin Torres, a sophomore from Reserve and a graduate of Archbishop Chapelle High School. Torres is studying mechanical engineering. She is a member of the Society of Peer Mentors, and she participates in the Excellence in Calculus/STEM for Engineering Leadership and Diversity program.

 

 

Justin Dumas makes all-academic list at SLU

 

A league-high seven student-athletes represented the Southeastern Louisiana University football program on the 2021 Southland Conference All-Academic Football Team, which was released by the league office on Tuesday. Among them was sophomore defensive back Justin Dumas.

Dumas, a LaPlace, Louisiana native with a 3.44 GPA in kinesiology, was honored after picking off a pair of passes – including a 52-yard pick six in a 51-14 win at Northwestern State.
SLU led the Southland with seven selections, followed by UIW with six honorees. McNeese and Northwestern State garnered four spots on the team, followed by HBU (three) and Nicholls (two).

 

Doria Wilson & Taylor Cortez graduate from Northwestern State University

 

Northwestern State University awarded 662 degrees to 656 graduates during Fall 2021 Commencement exercises with four ceremonies held over two days, Dec. 15-16.  NSU also awarded 412 degrees to 409 Summer 2021 graduates.  It was the first commencement program presided over by Dr. Marcus Jones, who was named NSU’s 20^th president in November.

Local graduates were  Doria Wilson of LaPlace, bachelor of science; and Taylor Cortez od Des Allemands, bachelor of science.

 

Kyle Cannon named Athlete of the Month

 

High school sophomore Kyle Cannon of the St. Charles Catholic football team was named the Greater New Orleans Amateur Athlete of the Month for the month of December 2021. Cannon helped lead SCC to a Division III state championship title. Winners are selected by the Greater New Orleans Sports Awards Committee, which is sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
